This came across my Facebook feed the other day.
I found it to be an interesting concept. I’ve never heard of a municipality actively trying to rebrand itself. Most municipalities don’t actively brand themselves, they just are. They are an amalgamation of numerous factors, many that are not quantifiable.
Think of New York, London, Los Angeles, Paris, or Rome. Or even here in Canada with Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto, Halifax or Hamilton. Each of those cities conjure up a pretty distinct image immediately in your mind. The idea of that city that you have, took years of cultivating through economic, cultural and demographic change. Some intentional and some not.
This decision by the city of Burlington is ambitious to say the least. I’m curious to see how this process unfolds and what it will mean for future development of the municipality.
I’ll be following this process closely.
