The forgotten side of COVID-19

This week’s episode of The 905er is up.

It was definitely an emotional episode. We talked with Laura Meffen whose daughter, Emily is in a supported living home for people with developmental disabilities, and Jill Davis whose mother is in a long term care home. Both facilities operate under the protocols of the Ministry of Long Term Care.

As such, their loved ones have been cut off from them effectively. In a world where daily routines are important, COVID-19 has upended all of that. The first thing that seemed to go out the window was regular family contact.

It raised questions about what exactly are our priorities in this pandemic? And why is it so hard to figure out a path through this. As this pandemic continues on, it’s becoming more and more clear that the old way of life simply won’t cut it. The costs to some families is just too high.
